Our firm was founded by Thomas Raeburn White over 100 years ago. A model of continuity and stability, we have enjoyed slow and steady growth, carefully mentoring new lawyers and rarely acquiring practices laterally. In this way, despite its growth to over 230 attorneys in ten offices, our firm has maintained a culture that places premium value on loyalty, integrity, and service to our clients. We recognize that while size can better enable us to offer our clients a full spectrum of legal services, it must not prevent us from developing close, partnering relationships with each and every one of our clients. At White and Williams, we are large enough to serve our clients, and small enough to care.
Our firm has won some of the most important civil trials and handled some of the most sophisticated business transactions in the United States. Widely respected for excellence in the courtroom, we represent clients in all aspects of civil litigation and appellate practice in state and federal courts. Our litigation practice encompasses such areas as business and employment issues, products liability, medical malpractice, toxic and mass torts and workers’ compensation. We have a national reputation as counsel to insurance companies in complex matters such as property subrogation, coverage, insurance fraud and reinsurance disputes.
In our business practice, we represent a variety of regional, national and international business organizations, financial institutions, pension funds, developers and individuals. Handling a myriad of transactions, our business attorneys focus on such matters as the formation, governance, operation and dissolution of corporate organizations. We also provide guidance and representation in such areas as creditors’ rights, real estate, tax and estate planning and e-commerce.
Our client base is diverse. We represent banks, bank-holding companies, product manufacturers, insurance companies, colleges and universities, service and distribution companies, health care institutions, real estate developers, retailers, title insurance companies and brokerage firms.
We at White and Williams are proud of the century-old heritage of excellence, innovation and integrity left to us by our predecessors. Every day, we dedicate ourselves to maintaining our reputation, case by case, client by client. Our focus remains on our clients, whose goals and objectives we strive to understand and serve.
Wilmington, DE Office
White and Williams has been serving the needs of the Firm's clients in Delaware since 1989. Our office is located in downtown Wilmington, making it convenient to I-95, Amtrak's Northeast Corridor rail service and both the Philadelphia and Baltimore airports. From this location in the heart of New Castle County our lawyers serve the entire state, including the capital of Dover and surrounding Kent County as well as the resort and agricultural communities of Sussex County.
The Wilmington office provides a full array of litigation-related services for our clients, including trial, appellate and ADR representation. We have handled a broad spectrum of the commercial and business disputes for which Delaware's state and federal courts have become renowned across the country, including insurance coverage disputes, intellectual property, trade secret, and e-commerce matters. Our experienced Delaware trial lawyers also handle a wide variety of healthcare litigation including the defense of hospitals, physicians and other healthcare professionals in medical negligence cases, life, health and disability insurance matters, ERISA litigation, professional liability claims, product liability and toxic tort matters, construction and property damage claims, employment discrimination, injunction actions and other special lawsuits where a client requires immediate relief.
Our Creditor's Rights Practice Group maintains a strong presence in Delaware, which is the venue of more corporate bankruptcy litigation than any state in the nation. Our bankruptcy lawyers are involved in all aspects of creditor-debtor relations and represent insurance companies, financial institutions, landlords and other public and private investors in connection with the enforcement of their rights as creditors. Our lawyers also represent financially-distressed companies and individuals and other borrowers in work-outs, Chapter 11 reorganizations, Chapter 7 liquidations, and other consensual restructuring of indebtedness. Because our office is located in the same building as the Delaware Bankruptcy Court, we offer a convenient and efficient manner of providing legal services in the rapidly expanding Delaware Bankruptcy arena and frequently serve as local counsel for many out-of-state attorneys.
We also provide a broad range of legal services tailored to fit out clients' business and transactional challenges. Our lawyers assist in developing the optimal legal structure for businesses based on the goals of our clients and the application of our experience in tax and securities law. Whether the preferred structure is a corporation, limited liability company, limited partnership or general partnership, we craft the formation documents, operating agreements, shareholder agreements, partnership agreements or bylaws to suit the unique issues presented by our clients' business plans. Working with our clients to understand and evaluate the variables and risks in their business operations, we draft and negotiate commercial agreements to properly address and alleviate the risks involved in our clients' business activities, including purchase and sales agreements, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, employment agreements, covenants not to compete and other related agreements.
